-
- This program will discuss factors effecting the performance end users
- can expect to see when running OS/2, DOS or Windows applications on
- desktop computers, including Micro Channel, ISA and EISA architectures.
- The synergy between Micro Channel architecture and OS/2 2.0 will be
- demonstrated using programs anyone might run; two diskettes and a wrap
- connector for the parallel port. The program prints and transfers files
- on any PC system which can run OS/2 2.0. The presenter will explain why
- single tasking benchmarks, commonly used to analyze systems, are obsolete
- and misleading in a multitasking environment.
-
- OS/2 2.0 uniquely defines concurrent I/O capabilities that can signifi-
- cantly enhance normal desktop or server performance and capability.
- Since DOS and Windows presently restrict most I/O to sequential opera-
- tion only, these capabilities are best exploited on many current Micro
- Channel systems. Micro Channel architecture's superior ability to
- support OS/2 concurrent I/O activity is shown as a dramatic performance
- improvement over a similarly configured ISA system.
-
- The second part of the program focuses on how concurrent I/O activity
- impacts overall system efficiency in Micro Channel and ISA systems using
- OS/2 2.0. The program will conclude with a live Q&A session.
